Among the porters of Marangu Village, the Marangu Route is known as the "Coca-Cola Route. Like the beverage, it's highly popular. Probably ninety percent of all Kilimanjaro mountain climbers follow the Marangu Route.
While the Marangu Route is often dumped upon as being the most crowded route, and a "bad experience", it's actually very beautiful and doesn't deserve it's tourist-route" reputation. One of the best things about the Marangu route is that it's possible to stay in well-built huts all the way up the mountain. The other benefit is that mineral water, beer, and coke are available at all the main huts (Kibo, Horombo, Mandara) along the route, although you can expect to pay more than double what these products would cost down in Moshi.
